Information & Terms of Use
The policies outlined below are meant to inform the UBC community and others on operational procedures affecting the maintenance of UBC's top-level web presence (e.g. link requests). See also legal information regarding use of the web at UBC.
Although reviewed for accuracy at the time of posting, the information available on UBC's top-level web site is subject to change without notice. The user should confirm the accuracy of information before entering into any financial or other commitment; see the publications page for a listing of official university publications.
Any errors regarding site content should be reported to web.admin@ubc.ca.
The top-level UBC web site home page is used to promote major UBC initiatives, campus-wide events, and other key strategic UBC messages. The following criteria are used when deciding upon the messages and images that are placed on the home page:
Specific messages or themes typically run for no longer than one week. As a broad guideline, if the information warrants mention in UBC Reports, the university's main campus-wide news and information publication, it will be considered for the top-level home page.
Requests from the UBC community for the use of space on the home page should be made at least one full month in advance of the time frame you would like your images / messages to appear, so that we can coordinate all necessary elements. Please submit your requests to web.admin@ubc.ca.
UBC Public Affairs makes every effort to ensure that the links on the top-level site are accurate and up-to-date. Because of the diversity of web sites and web administrators on campus, however, broken links on the site do go unnoticed from time to time, and we encourage you to e-mail us at web.admin@ubc.ca with reports of broken links or updates.
Requests for link updates, changes and additions from the UBC community are typically handled within ten (10) business days.
UBC Public Affairs is currently working with other key campus groups to develop a more comprehensive consultation process and strategy regarding the use of the web at UBC. At present, we are able to provide only limited time and resources, but we do encourage you to contact us regarding any web site / web-related project you may be undertaking, by e-mailing web.admin@ubc.ca. See Web Strategy & Resources on the UBC Public Affairs site for more information.
The UBC.ca site contains only a few links to outside resources which have been deemed to be appropriate and useful to the overall UBC community (e.g. weather, B.C. tourism sites). We are unfortunately unable to accept general requests to create links to sites which are external to the UBC community.
At present the UBC.ca web site does not accept any advertising or sponsorship. See Policy #98 (PDF) (Commercial Enterprises on Campus) and Policy #112 (PDF) (Advertising) for general information regarding UBC and commercial activities and advertising.
The flag near the Chan Centre / Rose Garden is lowered to half staff, under the direction of UBC Ceremonies and Events, following the passing of a UBC community member (alumnus, faculty or staff member, etc.). The top-level UBC home page endeavors to note for whom the flag has been lowered the same day on which the flag lowering takes place.
